Medical Adaptations

You may find health or mobility problems make it difficult to make full use of your home, such as the bathroom or kitchen facilities.  We offer a free medical adaptation service to people of all ages to help you stay independent and safe in your own home.  Each year Southside Housing Association has a budget set aside to carry out adaptations to help tenants who have medical or mobility issues.  If you are a tenant of the Association, we can consider adaptations such as a level access shower instead of a bath or the installation of an over-bath shower. Even the simple installation of a grabrail or handrail may make all the difference.

Listed below are small adaptations which we can provide free of charge:

  • Grab rails and/or hand rails.
  • Installation of lever taps.
  • Relocation or additional door entry handset.
  • Door handle and/or lock adjustment.
  • Lower light switches and/or raise sockets.

To request any of the above small (minor) medical adaptations, please contact the main switchboard and ask to speak to your Housing Officer at Southside Housing Association on telephone number 0141 422 1112 or email csd@southside-ha.co.uk.

If you require a larger (major) medical adaption in your home such as a ramp or level access shower, please contact Social Care Connect on telephone number 0141 287 0555, or via this link and they will arrange for an Occupational Therapist to assess your home and make a referral to Southside Housing Association.  Once the Occupational Therapist has made a referral to us we will complete the medical adaptation for you free of charge.

If you feel your current home is currently or becoming unsuitable for your needs and would prefer to move to a more suitable property, we would be happy to discuss your housing options.  This could be a chat on the phone or a member of staff visiting you in your current home.  Please contact us to arrange a housing options interview on telephone number 0141 422 1112 or email csd@southside-ha.co.uk.
